Some parts of the country have a higher density than others, and this is driven by local demand.

This list of face to face trained installers can be accessed at this link, remember to select Evohome Specialist Member

I guess though, the man (or woman) on the street will not particularly think to select Evo Specialist - I know I didn't. Thinking back, I picked my installer from that link but from the Installer Network members list - I think my thoughts would have been that the specialist would charge too much (I only have a choice of 2 on the list) and also if they are on the Installer Network members list then they must be approved by Honeywell anyway.

And the only reason that I looked at the list in the first place was that we had moved over the river so didn't have a regular gas man.

Only 2 for me, closest for me is 12 miles away then 26 miles.

An Evohome Specialist will normally cover that distance

through the getconnected site (evohome and other connected thermostats) here is what it says

    Find an Installer

Honeywell’s connected products heating system has been designed to be easy to operate. They also have a range of features that make them easy to install for an experienced plumbing and heating installer.

For optimum performance, domestic heating systems need to be ‘balanced’ and it is important to make sure everything is already fully functional when making changes to the existing system.
Honeywell recommends new connected heating systems should always be installed by a fully competent plumbing and heating installer.

Finding a qualified installer is easy. Simply click below to locate a Honeywell Installer Network member. If you thinking of installing an evohome system you can even select installers who have had specialist evohome training.

One knew of the system and was competent but for other reasons could not do the work but made one very good recommendation - whatever you do don't just go to a heating/plumbing company without ensuring they have a very competent electrician in their employ to handle the electrics. I used 0800, I did not need a plumber only their electrician and he was one of the few I have come across who knew more about electrics than the average. Even then mine was the first hot water plus central heating Evohome installation he had done.

Somehow installers have got themselves on to an approved list with Honeywell but I am sure competency is an issue with many. That will come with experience, we are the early adopter guinea pigs! However, I will be surprised if many can go beyond putting valves on and wiring it up to the actual set up and scheduling of the whole system. My chap left all the binding etc. to me on the basis he assumed I would know more about it! Perhaps I do now but only after reading these pages!
I installed my Evohome last weekend using info from this forum and a little help from Richard (Evohome Shop) who I purchased the components from. I do like my gadgets and a bit IT savvy but have no idea about plumbing or electrics. I wouldn't advise everyone to "have a go" and you need to know your own limits. However, for me it was merely a case of wiring the BDR91 correctly which is where Richard advised and installing the HR92's which is a doddle. The binding and optimization can be a challenge but I'm sure this is where boys with toys will excel!

I looked on the Honeywell site for an installer and like others didn't find lots. Of those I did speak to, 2 had installed none and one had installed a handful. They had all been on the training course but apart from being able to physically install the system, sounded like none had much experience of the system. This is where this forum stands out and is so useful.

I'm happy to post/discuss my installation experience if it will help others?

What did you think if the instructions supplied? Were they helpful?

Yes and no! The instructions for each component were fine such as the HR92's and made it clear how to bind, clear binding, enter and alter menus, etc. As you mentioned in another thread, the BDR91 green LED flashing up to 5 times when performing an RF test is a typo.

Where I feel the manuals did fall down was how the system worked together, as a whole system. As each user will have different components depending on their setup it's difficult to get this across on paper and maybe links to a few instructional videos would work.

Only from this forum did I learn about double binding, waiting few seconds after binding to allow recognition, and that most teething issues are from setup errors, etc. It would be useful to have a detailed trouble shooting section or link although a lot of solutions are on the Evohome Shop help section.

The instructions that I have struggled with are the DTS92 for the room thermostat. I got this as an additional item after my install was finished as I wasn't sure if the HR92 was giving a true reflection of the room. I still don't know whether I have set it up correctly although I did try to follow the instructions. I think that it is set up as the thermostat for the room rather than just an expensive thermometer.

TBH we are a bit of a dysfunctional family; very much role reversal, hubby, cooks, cleans, does the washing, etc as he is retired and I go out to work (then come in and play with my toys!)
