    Was just thinking of something else regarding the app issues. Not sure if this is important but will post it just in case helps someone else.
    I installed the app and created an account on my iPhone BEFORE I installed my Evohome system and whilst playing around with the app logged into my account on the app. Wouldn't explain why app worked over wifi and not 4G but after deleting app on both mine and wife's iPhones, resetting and then reinstalling app, seems to work ok now!

      Check in iphone settings (not in app) that use mobile data is enabled. Try toggling that setting...
