Thanks for logical explanation. Can you speed this up as HenGus suggests by doing something with the TRV buttons? Simple 'press once' or maybe 'RF Check mode'? Good to know comms is every 5 mins once set up and running.

I usually just power cycle (pop out the batteries in the radiator controller) to force the 'sync' process to repeat again. Not sure that pressing the button on the HR92 makes this happen.

You can force the sync process by sliding the little latch under the display which secures the head then sliding it back again. Might take a minute or so to respond.

I find that easier than popping batteries out, or fiddling with the controls.

Wow - all the above is rather complicated when a push and release of the HR92 menu button will do the job just as well.

Does pressing the button also restart the 'sync' process if sync has been lost with the Evo Touch? Its the re-sync part that is important (rather than just having the HR92 send the room temp to the main controller) as this affects the receiving of info from the controller. On many of the battery devices you can force a one-way send to the controller to refresh the data it sends, so it would be good to know if the menu button on the HR92 can be used for one-way send to the controller or if it forces a resync if the HR92 has lost sync/comms with the controller too.
