..and that I certainly agree with. I had problems and was using Honeywell's pages to get the names of recommended installers. The one who did my electrics for the system came from the Honeywell list but had never configured the Evohome system before. I did that - and initially got it wrong because I did not read the manual properly!

In the Chesterfield area, I used Blueflame for my install:

      2 x base stations
      28 HR92's
      1 underfloor heating manifold controller
      2 wireless room stats
      1 x hot water controller.

All wired in, set up and configured to 21 zones, £3180 inc vat.

Very, very pleased with their service. They know what they are doing, are very tidy, polite and professional. Would certainly recommend.

If they really want to penetrate the market, they should have a fixed price install at a bargain price, using genuinely competent installers. If they had to subsidise this a little, I would think it would be worth it for the extra volume. The likes of Hive and Nest are throwing lots of money at penetrating the market and every customer they win is probably going to generate further customers from friends/relatives seeing it installed.

For anyone in Hertfordshire, the installer who I used is www.simonwillett.co.uk

I think the honeywell system beats the hive/nest hands down in terms of flexibility and ability to micro manage large houses to maximise the savings. However for many, it looks complicated. A single remotely configurable thermostat like Hive or nest is about the most they could handle. I know my parents would be overfaced by Evohome, even a small setup.

If they really want to penetrate the market, imho they should have a range extender as an absolute must. The system can them be deployed to some very large prestigious houses, all you need is one daft celebrity endorsement from their mansion, and the ability to demonstrate that the same technology can be had in a 3 bed semi for a reasonable price, and its sold. Those with the most to gain by micromanaging zones in very large properties simply cant use Evohome because of range issues. The lack of a range extender, or the system using mesh technology is its achilles heel.

Its possibly too expensive compared to Nest/Hive for a smaller property that may not see the full benefit, and its range issues prevent it being suitable for the very large houses, or those with thick solid walls or those with newer foil backed boards etc.

Hopefully Honeywell will make you a nice offer to commercialise the product.

I really don't see the point in Hive/Nest they're just stats you can turn on or off using your phone there is nothing smart about them and they don't save energy!
