Default Automating heating for a kennel !

I was thinking about controlling a heat lamp (less than 250w) with a sensor and some power control. In the latter case in-line control is viable as this wlil be a largely fixed installation. I was wondering if anyone had done something similar or can recommend any good value compatible products ?

This isn't something I've done but you maybe better going down the route of a heated blanket (Something like a electric blanket).

Find the size you need, install it on the floor of the kennel or maybe the rear/side wall.
With a electrical supply and outlet you could then control the plug in heated blanket via a timer/smart plug.

I think you'd just have issues with a heat lamp/bulb option.

I wouldn't use a heat lamp. Too many potential problems.
You can get small underfloor heating mats which would work. Did think of doing this for a friends dog kennel.
IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
