    System Boilers and Evohome

I am looking at the 'pros and cons' of getting a new boiler to support an 'S' plan configuration, Oso unvented cylinder and 21 radiators. My present boiler is an Ideal Classic FF280. I have narrowed my manufacturer options down to WB, Valiant, Viessman and Atag. Rather than get into the usual arguments about which boilers have better heat exchangers, better support etc, my question is this: 'which of these boilers play best with Evohome' controlling two zone valves?

As an aside, I see that most of the latest generation of boilers have low power built in pumps. Am I correct in assuming that they also have a built in ABV suitable for a fully TRVd house? Any other considerations that I should bear in mind? Thanks.

I would look for a boiler with OpenTherm and a good minimum modulation range. Oso cylinders are good and you can spec them with a clamp for the CS92 insertion sensor. The Viessmann, Ideal and ATAG all OpenTherm control interface.

I am still considering boiler replacement options and getting nowhere fast. When I mention Opentherm and Evohome, the few installers that I have spoken to do not appear to understand what I am talking about. One responded by saying that the only option was to let Evohome do its own thing and buy a boiler with weather compensation. How does a 'man in the street' find an installer that has the knowledge and the ability to use what Evohome has to offer?

Honeywell connected specialists should be able to help here. If you're having difficulties finding someone suitable I can try and help.

Thanks but I have checked that route and none of them install ATAG or Viessmann boilers.

            What boilers are they offering?

The two local Connected Specialists are Baxi and Valliant installers. I have spoken to Valliant Technical and they are adamant that their boilers do not support Opentherm as they use a bespoke Ebus. I have looked at the long AH thread on this!

One local installer (non-Evohome trained but familiar with it) did suggest Valiant/Viessmann with WC but he suggested that I should leave Evohome as is. He did also caution about adding more complexity when the benefits are very small ( in his view). ATAG- trained installers are some distance away which I suspect may be an issue.

                Correct Vaillant are not OT.

Baxi is OT as far as I am aware.

if you use evohome with the OpenTherm bridge you don't need weather compensation connected.

Thanks but Baxi boilers are not on my short list. My preferred options are: Atag, Viessmann and Valliant. I appreciate from reading forums various then if one asks 3 installers for a boiler recommendation each will come up with his/her own preference. The important thing for me is choosing the right system boiler with Evohome OT as a nice to have.

Out-of-interest, has anyone actually worked out the percentage gas kWh savings/year for a system with Evohome compared to a system with Evohome plus OT?

When my 19 year old boiler packs up I will install an Intergas boiler. So far as I can see there is little to match it. My service engineer who has installed lots reports people seeing gas bills halve and in one commercial premises the Gas Board visited in the belief someone was by-passing the meter as consumption had dropped so much. Plus my Evohome gear is compatible!
