    Irrigation Controller

    What are the current recommendations for irrigation controllers? I would prefer something Z-Wave or Wifi if possible as the location for the controller is not that accessible but I think cost is going to be a factor here.

    Possible options are
    GreenIQ - limited to 6 zones, not expandable but it is Wifi
    Solem 24V - Wifi, could be more than I wanted to spend but looks to do what I need
    OpenSprinker - looks promising, any idea what the import costs would be? I can't find any supplier in the UK

    Any other options I should be looking at?

        I use Hydrawise (http://hydrawise.com) which has a great API. I wrote a module to integrate it with Crestron too, so can trigger or suspend zones dependent upon inputs from soil moisture sensors (it has functionality for these, but it's not granular) and such. Plus it integrates with Weather Underground so you can access local weatherstations to drive and refine the irrigation scheduling.

        They were just bought by Hunter, but I would be surprised were that a negative....

          Marc, I just had one of these systems installed. Would you be willing or able to share your crestron module to use their API?

            Hi Dan,

            My 'module' (not wanting to glorify the work of a rank amateur) stopped working when Hydrawise changes the API to be https only which, as I am sure you know, meant that I needed to use SIMPL#, which is not part of my arsenal. The only command that works with http is the statusschedule (http://api.hydrawise.com/api/v1/statusschedule.php?api_key=<YourAPIKey>.

            I am, however, starting to have some success using a Hubitat controller and Jay Basen's Crestron/Hubitat module (https://github.com/jbasen/Crestron-Hubitat-Integration). There is a beta set of Hubitat device drivers for the Hydrawise controller (https://community.hubitat.com/t/coll...on-app-driver/) and whilst Jay hasn't written a module for an irrigation controller (although he has one for just about everything else) using his S+ modules as a template it doesn't seem to hard to write one and I will be emailing him today to ask about the SIMPL# side of things, where I will need help.

            On the assumption that your Crestron development skills are superior to mine (not a high bar...) you may also be in a position to help (he adds hopefully....)

              You could use a wifi 4 channel or 8channel relay board. These are quite cheap. Most enable you to do timed functions. And its quite easy to add a rainwater sensor into the mix as well. I did something similar years ago with an X10 4 channel relay board for watering a clients garden. Worked really well.

              This one is already in an enclosure

              This one is just a board. If you look at the connection diagram, just replace the light bulbs with valves.
