    Newbie project: Need suggestion please

    Hi,

I'm totally new to this. But....

I would like to setup a X10 based security light system.
I thought of using one or two (at different locations) PR7211 ( http://www.letsautomate.com/10222.cfm? ) and the HDM1 module ( http://www.wordpress-1219309-4387497...ticle&sid=1536 ) to put behind my MK switch which controls the light above the door. It refers to momentary switch, what is it? Does it mean that you press it down and instead of staying down, it goes back up and breaking the circuit again?

Will this work? What else do I need? I thought I may get the "starter" kit http://www.simplyautomate.co.uk/prod...sp?prodId=5458 plus the security lights.

    Any help/suggestions much appreciated.

    Hi Welcome aboard,

Er Yes I think there is a way to make this work, but I don't thing it'll be the easiest way to do it for a newbie to x10. The HDM1 is a dimmer so the pr7211 is probably not a suitable load. You could possibly use the hdm1 transmitting functions to trigger the pr7211.

I would use the remote/tm13 from the starter kit to trigger the PR7211. set both to A1 for a start use the CM11 on a pc to watch what happens to the various devices. then rig the hdm1 to a momentary switch and an ordinary bulb and play with that for a while.

An easier start may be a TM13/Remote, a plug in lamp module and an appliance module, just to get the feel. You'll have fun I'm sure. Then the CM12.

Momentary switch: yep only operational when pushed, like a doorbell. You can have push to make OR push to break, you will need push to make. MK do a grid switch version in various colours which fits the bill. http://www.mkelectic.co.uk

What else to you need? for this little project not much I guess, for the next 400 projects? A well heeled Credit card!

    Hope this helps

      Thanks for the reply Andrew.

I think at least I'm on the righ(ish) track. One thing to clarify: can the PR7211 switch on the HDM1 controlled light bulb? If so, I should be able to control HDM1 by the PR7211 right?

      Thanks again!

        Hi,

Yes I believe so, you'll have to be careful which unit codes you use or your setup will do strange things.

ps your using mains electricity, take great care.
