Default X10 is old. About the Home Automation of today! ;)

    Hi guys, new here.
It surprised me that you are still thinking of the X10 system as the base of home automation.

I myself am a great fan of home automation, but I know as much to expect not a whole lot from an X10 system. The reason:
    SLOOOOWWW... extremely slow.

With an X10 system you're going to have to wait around 10 minutes for 10 blinds to come down, and I'm not exaggarating! lol

I'm not trying to mock anyone's liking I'm just trying to inform you guys that there are other systems out there that use a cat5 cable for data transfer and are generally at least ten times faster than X10.
A good site to check for more information would be this one:

    http://www.aesautomation.com.au

I found this a couple of days ago and you can find plenty of information in the different areas of home automation, explained detailed. There's also a free movie on home automation available. I've just ordered a copy for myself.
But in any case it gives you a general outlook on what else is out there.

    Cheers.

    Hi Boian

That URL seems to be your own, yes?

We don't just talk about X10 here. Lots of C-Bus and Z-Wave interest too for example.

However, 90% of people still get into HA thru X10 in my experience.

Where have you found such slow blinds? Mine take about 10 seconds or so. Are the very slow ones available on the website you pointed us to? Don't think I'll bother looking there then

When you said "found it a couple of days ago", did you mean you founded it (as in created it) a couple days ago?

I just assumed because you have the site down in your profile as your own.

No. I always put sites that I like in my profile.

And... nevermind it looks like you guys don't know what's good.

You can close this topic please.

The reason many like or talk about X10 is that it is a cheap way of getting into the home automation market.
As Otto has stated we also talk about other systems too. But if you look at the last 10 years of what systems have come and gone. And now look at which ones are still here. This is another reason for choosing X10, as a good starter system.
Everyone is entitled to their own views, and we try and cater for everybody.
I would like to know where you get the 10 minutes figure from. As the speed is normally a function of the motor, and to a lesser degree how you have X10 to open or close those blinds.
