    an automatic bypass

    please could you tell me this - i have a ravenheat combi fanned boiler for just over 3 years and have had some problems i have been told by ravenheat that it needs an automatic bypass but the engineer from another company says that removing the thermostatic valve acts the same as a bypass is this true please help angus3@ntlworld.com

    When my combi boiler was installed, I asked the plumber if one of the rads needed to have a normal valve (ie not a thermostatic one). He said that is was not needed as the boiler itself had an expansion chamber and some other stuff. (can't remember what he called it). So in theory taking aTRV off one rad should do the trick. Usually the smallest rad in the system is enough. But bear in mind that your boiler was designed to operate with its own bypass. This could be connected to some sort of safety shutoff system which you would now be bypassing.
    Personally I would get the boiler fixed as there maybe something else wrong with it.
    Just my 2 cents worth.
