Simple solution for automatic bathroom lights

    Hi there,

Hopefully this will be a fairly simple on that you guys can help me out on (the tougher questions will come later).

I want some bathroom lighting to come on as someone enters the room. I then want it to stay on for about 5 mins (I don's want to have to wave my arms about every 20 seconds whilst sat on the toilet).

I'm guessing that I just need to hook up a motion detector for this? any ideas?

A motion sensor will do just fine for simple control. You may also wish to consider adding a timer and/or light level sensor so that the light only comes on when it is dark :-)

There's a few sources of ceiling mount, mains voltage PIRs, e.g.
Screwfix: http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/...80538&ts=28364 (5mins max "on" time though)

    Danlers: http://www.danlers.co.uk/trade/tradepricelist.html

    Greenlite: http://www.greenlite.co.uk/switch.htm
Flush mount, with pictures. Quoting from one of the paragraphs "It uses occupancy and light level sensing to ensure that lighting is switched on only when an area is occupied and the light level is too low. "

Googling will give you a few more suppliers :-)

    HTH,

You might find this interesting as I have done this with my kitchen lights. Note the use of a beam break as well as a motiopn sensor. It all depends on how smart you want the lights to be.

Go to any electricla trade outlet and ask for an occupancy sensor. the good oes are fitted in-line with your switch to light feed and take power from that, whereas others need a separate mains feed to them.

TLC-Direct may have some as well
