    A self-resetting circuit?

Like clockwork, I need to reboot my cable modem every week. And it would be nice to automate this process, as the modem is pretty deeply buried in cables and other fun things.

Is there something off-the shelf (or a design for a circuit floating around) that is simply there to power-cycle flakey electronics? The simple power off / on stuff for christmas lights usually has a 5 minute resolution between when things go down and when they come back up... I need more like a 5-second resolution.

    Ideas?

Simple X10 appliance module and a CM12 will be able to turn the router off and back on immediately once a day.

There's this sort of thing, or was this what you *didn't* want?

Set this for, say, 3am monday morning and you should be ok :-)

Alternatively, plug the PSU for the router into a more accesible socket / extension lead etc. so you can reach it.

Does your modem get hot. It may be overheating, which is why it needs the reboot. You may want to make the modem a bit more accessible, so it has a better air flow. Its just a thought.

The 7-day digital is pretty close... I can live with a minute of downtime. The fastest turnarounds on digitals that I've seen is 5 minutes, which seems like too much.

          Thanks for the ideas!
