    X10??

    Hi all,

I am in the process of re-wiring a house and have been asked to look into automation. Originally it was just about sending AV signals around the house then the phone then data. Done all that using a cat5 patch system.

But now, they are asking me about an affordable home security system.
I have had a look at the x10 system but these sites seem a little confusing, i dont want bulky connectors attached to the walls, is there a way of connecting the x10 components at the fuse box. What burglar alarm system do u recommend for use with this.

If one exists i would like camera PIR units (or seperates) which tie in to the system, a smart system which turns the lights on and off and notifies you on your mobile that the alarm has gone off. (Door/window contacts not neccessary) Also if they exist, smoke detectors that are hardwired to the electric that could also be tied in to the x10 system.

If affordable i would also like remote access via ip streaming from the pc of the cameras.

Please remember i am new to this and have no real idea how X10 slots together, so a guide to the technology would be GREAT!!

Also, i have wired (via the patch panel) the living room tv to the pc for the use of watching movies on Windows media centre. If there is anyway of taking advantage of this for the x10 stuff that would be great too!

    Thx,

    Louis

    Re: X10??

I can recommend the Visonic Powermax+ alarm. This has a built in X10 controller you just need to add an XM10 module to interface the alarm to transmit X10 signals. Also you can get an optional GSM module to give you text alerts. And they do a web server module which gives you full control of the system via the net. The web server can also except up to 4 wired cameras, these need to be from Visonic. It can also except IP cameras instead of the wired ones.
It is posible to get X10 micro modules that fit behind your switches etc.And you can get modules that are also designed to fit on a din rail, same as the rail in most fuse boxes.
One thing you will need to fit at the consumer unit is an X10 filter. This filters out unwanted signals entering or leaving the house. One type of filter is the FD10 X10 filter.
Integrated pir and cameras do exsist.
    www.kgbcameras.co.uk for the cameras.
    http://www.visonic.com for the alarm.
    http://www.simplyautomate.com , http://www.letsautomate.com and http://www.intellihome.be for x10 modules.
    good luck
IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
